Food Not Bombs and Katrina

tomorrow morning i am beginning a trip down to houston, to deliver food supplies and to cook and serve at food not bombs field kitchens that are set up and operating at shelters around the region. the kitchens are feeding survivors of the hurricane who are now misplaced. there will probably be three of us going, myself and two others from denver. in the truck is loaded about 400 pounds of food! this includes:

1 25 lb. bag of brown rice (organic)
1 25 lb. bag of mung beans (organic)
1 25 lb. bag of long grain brown rice
1 25 lb. bag of kidney beans (organic)
1 25 lb. bag of basmati brown rice (organic)
1 25 lb. bag of whole wheat couscous (organic)

about 56 lbs. of brown basmati rice
about 53 lbs. of great northern beans
about 22 lbs. of black beans
about 39 lbs. of kidney beans
about 28 lbs. garbanzo beans (organic)

three boxes of various non-perishable foods, including:

24 cans of food (soups, vegetables, chili, fruits, etc.)
7 lbs. of noodles (spaghetti, etc.)
about 2.5 lbs. of hot chocolate!
3.5 lbs. of powdered milk
2 boxes of clif bars
and other food (rice meals, dried peas, sunflower seeds, instant refried beans, etc.)

so, that is incredible. and it is thanks completely to donations! i will add updates when i get back....maybe some pictures and just some comments on how the food efforts go.
