It's been awhile since i have written here. a couple of times i have written entries and then decided not to post them....i don't know why for sure. i guess i feel a little wierd about writing on this public post, especially since the reason for originally creating it, an experience in Palestine, is over. But, all the same, this is a space that has been created and now i feel like using it.
i am in Colorado and pleasantly unemployed. i was working at a nursery and it was good work, outside and with people i enjoy being with. i have been bike riding a lot (i now have a bike....i borrowed jen's for quite awhile and then took it to a bike collective here in town to get fixed up. While it was there, Rafael, the guy who runs the bike place, lent me another to use. So, i haven't been bikeless). The bike collective, Bike Against, is a really wonderful thing. Rafael takes donated bikes and parts and creates new, very excellent running bikes for the community. He also repairs, tune-ups, and basically makes people's bikes wonderful. It is a really cool thing and something to think about in regards to other aspects of a community.
Anyway, i just felt like writing something for this space again. i don't know if i will be very consistent in adding to this blog or if anyone is even reading it. But both are okay.
What really prompted me to write here today is something that i typed on a search engine on the web a little bit ago. i typed in 'real adventure', wondering what kinds of results would turn up. Almost every link was something commercial, about how you could buy 'real adventure'. It just seemed really bizarre and darkly comical to me and for some reason i felt like mentioning it here. i don't have much to say about it....i think it speaks for itself.
As far as this blog being about an experience in Palestine----the penpal project has been proceeding and that's exciting. The initial batch of letters were received by the students in Australia. Those students in Australia have written responses, which are waiting to be handed out to the students in Nablus. So, a bit of real communication is beginning, I think. The news i have been reading about what's been happening there recently is pretty shitty, as usual--maybe some of you have seen some of it. i thought about including current articles and stories in this space but i don't know....maybe at some time this space can become something like that.
i hope everyone who reads this, and all the friends and family that i think about, are doing well. have fun.

Hey Matt,
I was happy to see your new post! Loved the photographs. Are you going to be back in the MN/ND area anytime soon? If so it will be great to see you again! Hope all is well with you, glad to hear you have a bike again!

yo homie, i thought flyingears was dead in the water, but i was wrong. really liked the pictures. i wish i was pleasantly un-employed! how do you pay your bills and still keep up the extravagant lifestyle that you are accustomed to?

extravagant? mostly i just rob banks for the little cash that i use for rent and stuff like that. actually, i don't. rob banks that is. i do pay rent, though, which perhaps justifies robbing banks. although i don't.
hi matt! it's lisa. i don't have much to say, just that i loved your photographs, and your entry. i remember that about home- how whenever you think of fun things, things i wanted to do or experience or see or understand, oftentimes the first thing that came to mind, so naturally, was how much it would cost, if i could buy it, how much it's selling for... you know? it's not even just in how commercials and ads try to sell you your life, it seeps into how you think. when i go home i have to make a point of getting outside and doing natural things, cause i think that cleans up your mind from all that junk, a bit. anyway. i'm glad to hear you're doing well.. (wow, this is turning long, sorry :) ) things are good here. i started to draw again about a week ago, it was nice. i should write you an email! till then, my best wishes and lots of love from jerusalem and nablus and the clowns and the kids.
(PS! don't erase your entries.. thoughts that seem so familiar or unimportant to you can be really pleasant for others to read. :) )
